Will, Max, Sadie and Gerald - holding the jug. Not moonshine, nope, Sweet Apple cider! The joy from a jug of good apple cider never ended. As I (Kyle) grew up, there would always be a gallon jug in the basement refrigerator. It was part of the daily routine that my dad and I would take a long swig of the sweet nectar each night after milking chores were finished and before our evening shower.

Photo Booth Fun

Gerald LaRosh

Doyle and Gerald in winter fun. Sleding down the slope past the horse barn was fun when I (Kyle) was young. The horse is Trixie. (notice, Doyle's feet don't reach the sturrups)

Doyle standing, Gerald seated at cistern pump. Max in wagon, Roylynn behind with Sheik.

Gerald is in the center of the judging contest.

Max and Gerald dug up a den of coyotes and got these two pups. This was taken on the east side of the house.

This is Gerald and the horse Lad. He was a special horse in that he went to high school in Covert for maybe 8 years. Doyle was the first to ride him to school. There was a resident in Covert with a shed where Lad could stay during class. At the end of class and basketball practice, he would be ridden home. When Doyle finished high school, Gerald rode Lad. The horse became so use to the route that on dark nights after practice, Gerald would give Lad his head and he would walk the path home through the hills, stopping at each gate so it could be opened.

Roylynn

In 1939, The kids had this pet coyote, shown with Roylynn and Max. Of course, they kept it tied on a leash because the chickens were free range in the yard. This was a very clever coyote. It learned that by resting well back from the end of the leash, and with patience, a hen would venture into the radius. Then the coyote would have the hen. The whole process infuriated Sadie so much that she took the rifle out to shoot the coyote. However, she was not able to fire the gun. At this point she called Max out and offered him $0.50 to kill the animal. Max, being the entrepreneurial type didn't hesitate to fire the gun and collect the cash!

Max

This is Max and Roylynn with their watermelon. Why would they give the carving knife to Max?! The #9 Gleaner combine is in the background with the header folded.

The Buggy Children

Trixie the horse is pulling the wagon. Roylynn is beside Sheik the dog. There are 2 unknown children, one behind and one in front of Roylynn. Doyle is seated with little Max beside him. Gerald is standing at the front. Will is watching behind with a sickle bar in hand, probably from the Gleaner combine behind. You can see his prosthetic left hook. The Graham-Page is behind the wagon. There doesn't seem to be a driver of the wagon, no one is holding the reins.

Sadie giving hunter safety to the boys. (Or, maybe receiving training to better able her for the next pet coyote.) Not sure which boys are there. Max could be the younger one with Doyle and Gerald. The boy in the foreground may be Dean Heiser. (he wore a cap like that in other photos) The rifle is a 22 gauge pump action gun. I am pretty sure it is the gun Doyle and Gerald purchased after trapping and selling pellets one winter. The gun is still in use.

This photo was taken on the Nellie's front porch in Osborne. Back row L-R, Possible Viola Conn, Max, Gerald, Roylynn. Max may have one of Lucille's children in his arms. Bottom Row, Joe, Lucille  Leach, Francis, Nellie, and Laura. Kyle is next to Francis, and Laura may be holding another of Lucille's children.
The dog is unknown?
